1968 MGB GT

£££ SOLD £££
This is a really lovely example of one of Britain’s favourite cars – the MGB GT. Superb looks, combined with simple mechanicals means that the MGB was (and still is) a big hit. It’s cheap to insure for everyone – even people under 25 will find that insurance prices are very reasonable.

An initial restoration of the car was completed 8 years ago. This included a fully rebuilt body, engine and full respray (engine and interior removed). Since then it has had a good number of other upgrades, which I shall detail below.

The car has MOT until March 2015, and I have little worry about the car getting another MOT. There are no issues that I’m aware of that would prevent it from passing. Obviously the car is tax exempt, and is taxed until next March, too.

The car has had:

  • Unleaded rebuilt head

  • +30 re-bore and mild cam fitted

  • Rebuilt carbs with solid-state fuel pump

  • Electronic ignition

  • New clutch, with new brake and clutch master cylinders

  • Fully rebuilt braking system (complete with servo) – copper brake lines all round

  • New rear shocks and rear springs

  • Rebuilt and recalibrated speedo

  • Lightweight starter

  • New seat covers

  • Stainless exhaust

The list goes on!

For the body every panel was replaced including new front and rear wings. Many other parts fitted - the list for panel replacement is also extensive. The gaps aren’t of ‘concourse’ standard – the car was a home rebuilt – they’re by no means terrible, but please be aware that this isn’t a show car. Structurally, the car appears to be very sound. The sills, castle rails, chassis legs and spring hangers all appear to be fine, and there aren’t any nasty patches of welding, it’s all nice and sound. You’re more than welcome to come and have a good prod around! Obviously the car was painted a few years ago now so there are some very minor imperfections, small scuffs etc but there is very little to worry about, as you will be able to tell from the pictures!

I have history and MOTs dating back several years. The car has covered less just over 1000 miles since 2010 – the previous owner was clearly a perfectionist who preferred to work his way through a car and make things ‘right’ rather than driving the thing! That said, I drove the car back to Manchester from London without any issues, and wouldn’t hesitate to do the same again. I plan to rebalance the carbs before the car is sold – it just needs a little bit of fine tuning because it’s been standing.

This is a bargain price for a fantastic car which attracts a great deal of attention wherever it goes. Obviously it’s not a concourse car but it’s generally very good indeed, but is ready to use and enjoy. You’ll be able to see that for yourself when you come to view. There are also a few spares included with the car, including a spare door, and a few other bits and bobs.
