These fuel-injected early 90s Coopers are great fun. To me, they are a ‘proper’ Cooper, free of any pointless styling additions such as wide wheels and flared wheel arches. There is much less unsprung weight with these narrower wheels and tyres – and they ride and handle much more nicely too!

This is a tidy example, which has 12 months MOT. Its large service history shows that it has covered just 57,000 miles from new. Bought new by a Mr D.J Humphreys in Birmingham, the original Rover service book is stamped as follows:

1000 Mile service    carried out at 275 miles, 16/5/1994

6000 Mile service    carried out at 923 miles, 4/10/1994

12000 Mile service  carried out at 3098 miles, 24/10/1005

18000 Mile service  carried out at 10087 miles, 23/12/1997

From there, there are a good number of bills and receipts for work that has been carried out on the car. Recent works include:

  • Front suspension rebuild – new adjustable front cones and bump stops, along with new heavy duty tie bars and uprated bushes (£854)

  • New steering rack gaiters, exhaust front pipe and catalytic converter (£389)

  • Replacement front wing, A panel, door sill, door step, door skin (£1000+)

  • Front brake rebuild, with new brake pads and recon calipers (£171)

  • Knightwatch immobiliser fitted

  • New rear subframe in 2011, along with new suspension cones, shock absorbers and various other MOT work (£1242)

As you can see, maintaining the car in a roadworthy state has been a priority throughout.

The car starts, runs, drives and stops very well indeed. The interior is very clean and tidy, and a previous owner has fitted a Sony CD player. It’s fitted with the standard Cooper leather seats and wooden dash.

Bodily, the car is nice and straight – you can see in the pictures that there are some areas of bubbling here and there - but there aren’t any structural issues. It wouldn’t have passed the MOT if there had been! All of the bubbling areas are purely cosmetic and could be sorted out as and when you see fit, at very reasonable cost.

Priced very reasonably for a quick sale – it’s an ideal starter classic or to use as a first car. Obviously it’s not a concourse show car but it’s generally very good indeed, but is ready to use and enjoy. You must remember that running a Mini isn’t like a modern Japanese Honda or equivalent – there will be bits and bobs to do from time to time, but generally you’ll be able to fix it yourself, because they’re so simple!

Grab a pre-season bargain.
