This RV8 is an original home-market car and has had just 3 previous owners from new. I bought the car from an 84-year-old gent who has owned the car for the past 10 years or so, and hadn’t used it for a couple of years. The car now has 11 months MOT and is ready for use. It’s a nice straight car which presents very well indeed, but it’s not an absolute minter – but as far as I can see, this car is £4000 cheaper than any other RV8 listed online, so it’s an absolute bargain.

The car is British Racing Green metallic, with full leather interior. It comes fitted with power steering (but no air-con, as it’s a UK car). The previous owner told me that the car had had a bump when it was about a year old, and as a result the car had a new front nearside wing, new front bumper and a respray. Please don’t let this put you off as the work was done professionally and has lasted well through the years.

The car starts and runs very smoothly, without any smoke. The gearbox is nice and quiet and the car pulls like a train – it really is VERY fast! It’s has the later gearbox fitted, which is a much better unit. These cars don’t weigh much more than an MGB so it’s very quick off the mark. Obviously there are no rust issues on the shell, as they were galvanised from new. The windscreen surround does have a bit of bubbling but this could be remedied very easily. The four wheels are in very good order.

The interior is in good order – most of the export cars now have badly faded and damaged wood from the sun and the heat, but the wood in this car is in good order! The seats are still soft and supple, and the soft top is in great nick. A hood cover is also included, as well as a wind-stop, which makes a big difference when driving when the roof is down. The paintwork is nice with a few small defects, but nothing serious. I have various bits of old paperwork including old MOTs and a few old bills.

All in all, this is a very nice car which needs little work to make it exceptional once more. Whilst it’s not the lowest-mileage example, it still runs beautifully thanks to the lazy, unstressed engine. If you’re after a clean and tidy RV8 to use and enjoy, then this is absolutely the car for you. You won’t find a better car for this money, I can guarantee!
