1974 MGB GT - Tundra Green

£££ SOLD £££

This truly is a bargain for a car of this spec. Please click on any of the photos below to be redirected to a website containing many more!

This is a really lovely example of one of Britain’s favourite cars – the MGB GT. Superb looks, combined with simple mechanicals means that the MGB was (and still is) a big hit. It’s cheap to insure for everyone – even people under 25 will find that insurance prices are very reasonable.

The car has MOT and tax until July 29th 2015, and the car will have free tax next year.

So, where do I start? The car is in very good running and driving condition, and could go into daily use with no bother at all.  Tundra Green is a very rare colour indeed, and it’s always the first thing that people comment on! It has clearly been enthusiast-owned for some time, and is in very good overall condition. There are MOTs, bills and receipts dating back to 1998.

Recent work includes:

  • ·         New front wings

  • ·         Wire wheel conversion, including a full brake rebuild and recondition of the rear axle

  • ·         A remote brake servo fitted

  • ·         New radiator

  • ·         New rear springs, fitted with polybushes

  • The car has been fitted with electric power steering from an MGF, but this is not currently working. The previous owner thought that a resistor had blown in the ECU, and reckoned a good auto electrician would be able to diagnose the problem very easily. Please note that everything required to convert the car back to standard is included – very easy.

The car is fitted with a Weber carb and extractor exhaust, and I’m told that the engine has been tuned to fast-road spec. I don’t have any receipts for this, but the car certainly pulls very well indeed.

As you can see in the pictures, the paintwork has a good shine, and the bodywork is solid throughout. Hopefully you can get a good idea of condition from the pictures. The chromework is generally good, with some minor pitting here and there – but shines up very well indeed.

The car starts, runs, drives and stops very well. The car pulls readily and there are no nasty rattles, whines or anything like that. Gears all select very well and the overdrive functions flawlessly. The car stops well too, thanks to the brake servo and new brakes which have recently been fitted. Structurally, the car appears to be very sound. The sills, castle rails, chassis legs and spring hangers all appear to be fine. There aren’t any nasty patches of welding, it’s all nice and sound. You’re more than welcome to come and have a good prod around!

The interior is pretty tidy, although you may want to fit new seats and carpets, as the seats have been recovered at home, and the carpet isn’t the best. It wouldn’t cost a lot to get it sorted to your taste – and, I suppose it allows you to put your own stamp on it! The car is fitted with a TOAD immobiliser.

This is a bargain price for a fantastic car which attracts a great deal of attention wherever it goes. Obviously it’s not a concourse car but it’s generally very good, but is ready to use and enjoy. You’ll be able to see that for yourself when you come to view.
