1972 Triumph Stag

£££ SOLD £££

We’ve decided to advertise this amazingly original Stag for sale – if it doesn’t sell, we’ll be having the car painted and doubling the asking price!

If you’re looking for an original, low mileage Stag, you won’t find one that’s better than this, at this price. The history has MOTs which prove that the displayed mileage is correct – that’s 42,000 from new. The previous owner had owned the car from 1982 and only covered 5,000 miles in that time. It’s always been in the North West, beginning in Whitefield, Manchester, before going to Morecambe.

As you can see from the pictures, the car appears to be absolutely original underneath. It’s MOTd until July, and had no advisories on the last test. New tyres were fitted all round last year.

Bodily, the car is very straight indeed. The previous owner had the car painted in 1982 – this was done in cellulose, and he’d never got around to machine polishing it! The finish would come up very nicely, but if you want a show-winning job, you will probably want to respray the car. You can see that the bodywork is very straight – even the door and wing bottoms are very sound indeed. A respray, therefore, would be very simple, and wouldn’t involve any welding/bodywork.

The interior is very original, and in good order. The seat foams are sagging a little. Also included are both hard and soft tops – I haven’t taken the hard top off yet so am unsure of the condition of the soft top.

The previous owner decided to fit a Triumph 2.5 straight-6 engine, which runs very nicely indeed, and is fitted with an overdrive manual gearbox. There are no issues at all, there – the car starts and runs nicely up to temperature, and there are no whines from the gearbox or diff. The overdrive functions exactly as it should. All of the electrics appear to function fine, and the alternator charges. Power steering works fine, as do the electric windows. A stainless steel exhaust is fitted.

All in all, this is one of the most unmolested and original Stags that I’ve ever seen. Obviously at this price it isn’t perfect, but it could be made into a VERY nice car for not very much money! Stags are very much an appreciating asset, so don’t miss out.
