Round Wheelarch MG Midgets are really beginning to become desirable. This Teal Blue example is no exception and would prove to be an excellent investment for the future.

 

The car’s previous owner had the car for 11 years, and in that time, a great deal of work was carried out. Clearly an enthusiast (and VSCC member), the car was fastidiously maintained and is a very well-sorted car. 

 

The car comes with an MOT until April 2017, and is ready to drive away. Recent works include:

 

·         Replacement Ivor Searle 1275cc engine with HIF carburettor, fast road manifold and 4 branch exhaust manifold – 3500 miles ago
·         Rebuilt gearbox (Klassictrans) and 3.7 differential – 1500 miles ago
·         Electronic ignition fitted
·         New suspension, including kinpins, polybushes and shock absorbers
·         New steering rack
·         New brakes all round
·         New fuel tank, pump and lines
·         New battery
·         Full respray
·         4 new tyres
·         Recent new wire wheels (3 years ago)
The 1275cc engine starts, and the car runs and drives very well indeed. The engine has excellent oil pressure and does not overheat. There are no nasty clunks from the transmission and wheel hubs.

 

Bodily, the car is very presentable indeed. The car had a structural and body rebuild in 1993 and this has lasted very well. The car has been professionally painted since then, and has a nice finish. The panel fit is very good and the doors open and close with a satisfying thunk. The wing-top seams are nice and solid, as are all of the wheelarches, along with the wing and door-bottoms – just have a look through the pictures! The interior is  clean and tidy, and the hood appears to be watertight, and is nice and taut. 

 

Structurally, the car appears to be very solid indeed – the floors, sills and spring hangers all look good. I can’t see there being any welding issues for a good few years to come. 

 

All in all, this is a great opportunity for someone who wants a well-sorted car that can be used regularly without any worries. It’s not the usual tarted-up piece of junk – the work which has been carried out appears to have been done to a good standard. I have some bills and history with the car but not a great deal.
