This desirable Round Wheelarch (RWA) Midget is a great car for any enthusiast. The previous owner was an MGOC Member and had owned the car since 1992. The car is booked in for an MOT next week so will be supplied with a full MOT.

The car had a bodywork restoration back in 2008 at a cost of £3000, where the car had a full respray along with any panels required. It’s still in very good order indeed, and the paint finish has a nice shine. As it’s a few years since this was done, there are a few VERY minor areas of blistering but there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. No, it’s not a concourse show car but it’s very presentable indeed, as you can see from the pictures.

I have MOTs which date back to the early 1990s, and various bills and receipts, including a bill for almost £2800 for a complete engine rebuild – Rebore, +20m crankshaft polish, new clucth, new shock absorbers, a fuel pump and various other bits and bobs. Since this, the car has only covered a few hundred miles each year.

The engine has excellent oil pressure and does not overheat. The gearbox is nice and tight with no clunks in selection (first gear is a bit noisy, all Midgets have a straight-cut first gear). It rides well, with no worn-out bushes etc, and pulls nicely. The car is fitted with lots of nice additions, such as a stainless steel exhaust, and stainless wheel trims. Structurally, the car appears to be nice and solid – the floors, sills and spring hangers all look to be nice and solid.

The interior is very clean and tidy, having been fitted with new seat foams, door cards and new carpets. The hood is a nice fit, and a hood cover is included. It’s nice and watertight but it’s a fabric hood and could do with a good clean as it’s discoloured a little.

All in all, this is a nice, straight car that would suit someone new to classic cars, or someone who already has some experience. These are simple little cars which, with regular maintenance, can prove to be reliable and usable classics.
