Well, where do I start? If you’re looking for an MGC GT that will eat up the miles and happily tour the continent, this is probably the car for you! It’s a manual fitted with overdrive – so the ideal spec, too! The car comes with an MOT until July 2016 and is of course tax exempt.

The previous owner has treasured the car for a number of years, and a great deal of work has been carried out. This is all covered in the vast amount of bills and receipts that are included, along with a spreadsheet which maps out all of the work the car has had since the mid 1980s. Also included is the car’s original BMC ‘Passport to Service’ which shows the car was supplied to its first owner in Guildford in 1969. MOT history dates back to the early eighties.

Anyway, enough about the paperwork and onto the car itself.  Here are some brief specs:

• ·         Major body rebuild in 1990, where the car had new wings, doors and valance. Other bodywork carried out since – all listed in the spreadsheet!

For the past few years the car has covered approximately 3000 miles per year. Unlike a lot of these cars which become fragile because of a lack of use, this car is ready to use straight away. It fires up healthily and pulls like a train. The gearbox is nice and slick, and overdrive engages strongly. It’s not sloppy on the road, either, it’s a nice, tight car. The Oselli engine has some real grunt and sounds absolutely fantastic, thanks to the Downton exhaust system.

 It hasn’t been over-restored like so many are – things like the chromework have a bit of patina to them – so please don’t come expecting to see a newly built show car. However, that said, it presents very nicely indeed, as you can see from the pictures! The underside is clean and tidy with no nasty patches, etc.

The interior has had recently recovered leather seats, with new foams. The carpets are great, as is the headlining. A Mountney steering wheel is fitted – if I was keeping the car I’d be looking for an original ‘banjo’ wheel to put back on it, as I think it’s one of the nicest features of the whole car!

The bodywork is all nice and solid, with the wing-top seams bubble free. The paintwork has a great shine, I’d say it’s had some paint in the past couple of years or so. Door bottoms are in great shape, and both doors shut nicely. The engine bay is clean and tidy, and could be made to look excellent with little work!

All in all, this is a fantastic opportunity to buy a car that is unlikely to need any major work for many years to come. If you’re after a well-sorted roadgoing car, this is probably the car for you. With the way that the values of these cars is going, it’s a very worthwhile investment and even if you own it for just a year or two, I imagine you would be able to cash in and make some profit – not to mention the enjoyment you’ll get from owning the car!
