If you’re looking for a well-sorted early Heritage Shell MGB Roadster, then look no further. This car represents everything that a well restored MGB should – fantastic bodywork and structure, excellent roadholding and sensible upgrades that do not detract from the classic feel of the car. It’s a great investment and prices of these early chrome bumper roadsters are definitely on the rise. I challenge you to find a nicer car for less money! It really is a bargain.

The car was restored a number of years ago, professionally, using a brand new Heritage bodyshell. The majority of components were replaced with new items. Since then, an Ivor Searle replacement engine has been fitted and has covered around 3000 miles. Bodily, the panel fit is excellent, the paint finish is magnificent and I can’t see any bubbling anywhere. There are a few VERY minor dents that could be removed very easily – there is no paint damage. The underside, as you can see in the pictures, is very nicely finished too, and is still in body colour rather than being undersealed.

The car drives absolutely beautifully and is incredibly taught and responsive. I can honestly say that it’s one of the nicest-driving MGB roadsters I’ve ever had the pleasure to use. There is no slop in the drivetrain - it’s a joy to drive. Being and earlier car means it has the much crisper 3-synchro non-overdrive gearbox which is free of whines. The rear axle also appears to have been reconditioned and is the correct one for a non-overdrive car.

I have some history for the car which includes MOTs back to the mid 1990s, the bill for the engine, and the receipt for the bodyshell. Rather than waffling on, here is a list to outline the car’s spec.

· Replacement heritage bodyshell in BRG with new doors, bonnet and boot lid
· Most exterior trim has been replaced and looks fantastic. New quarterlights etc.
· Recon dash, new switches etc. Mountney wheel
· Ivor Searle rebuilt engine
· Replacement hood and new frame, still in excellent order
· 5 bolt-on chrome wire wheels (beginning to become a little pitted and rusty)
· Rebuilt heater box
· Recent brake overhaul


I cannot stress how nice this car is - I am sure that any viewer will not be disappointed. MOT until August 2016, and the car is, of course, tax exempt. A new, bare, unpainted bodyshell is now £8500+VAT, so this represents a fantastic bargain. To build a car the same as this would require at least £17-20k.
