These MGCs are really beginning to climb in price. Being a manual, overdrive car in a desirable car, with wire wheels means that it offers fantastic investment potential, whilst still being very enjoyable to own.

 

The car is, of course, tax exempt, and has 12 months MOT.

 

It was subjected to a full restoration in the mid 90s and has covered around 20,000 miles since. It remains in very good order indeed which clearly shows the standard of restoration. The car’s previous owner had owned it for 15 years, and the owner before him owned it since 1977! It’s only had 3 previous keepers, and judging by the history, I’d say that the mileage is probably correct at 76,000.

 

The previous owner has treasured the car for a number of years, and a great deal of work has been carried out. This is all covered in the vast amount of bills and receipts that are included. Recent work  includes:

 

·         New tyres

·         New stainless steel exhaust

·         New starter motor

·         Electronic ignition fitted

·         New brake servo and brake hydraulics

·         New clutch master cylinder

·         New fuel lines throughout.

 

 

For the past few years the car has covered approximately 500-1000 miles per year.  The motor fires up healthily and pulls like a train. It’s not sloppy on the road, either, it’s a nice, tight car. The Oselli engine has some real grunt and sounds absolutely fantastic.

 

The car clearly had many new panels at the point of restoration, including wings, door frames and skins, and much more. The car still presents very well – the paint has a deep shine and the seams are in nice order. There is a touch-up at the front of one of the wings, but this doesn’t stand out too much and could be sorted very easily. The underside is clean and tidy with no nasty patches, etc. It’s not a show car, but is very presentable indeed. The engine bay is clean and tidy, and could be made to look excellent with little work!

 

The interior has leather seats, which have been fitted new foams. The carpets are great, as is the headlining. A Mountney steering wheel is fitted – if I was keeping the car I’d be looking for an original ‘banjo’ wheel to put back on it, as I think it’s one of the nicest features of the whole car.

 

All in all, this is a fantastic opportunity to buy a car that is unlikely to need any major work for many years to come. If you’re after a well-sorted roadgoing car, this is probably the car for you. With the way that the values of these cars is going, it’s a very worthwhile investment and even if you own it for just a year or two, I imagine you would be able to cash in and make some profit – not to mention the enjoyment you’ll get from owning the car!
