This is a really great example of one of Britain’s favourite cars – the Morris Minor. Charming looks, combined with simple mechanicals means that the Moggy was a big hit for almost two decades. It’s cheap to insure for everyone (including youngsters – the Morris Minor Owners Club will be able to supply details for a cheap insurance scheme).

The car has MOT until the end of January 2016 and is of course tax exempt, so is ready to drive away once insured!

It’s had only 4 previous keepers from new, and the mileage shows 62,000, which could well be true. I have old MOTs dating back to the early 90s where the car had 50,000 on the clock. I also have the original buff logbook with the car. The car is Dove Grey, which actually looks like a very pale blue.

This example is in fantastic running order. The car has been in the hands of a long-term enthusiast and has been kept in straight, usable order. Structurally the car appears to be absolutely fantastic – the floors, spring hangers, chassis legs, sills etc all appear to be nice and solid.

Bodily, the car is nice and straight too, although there have been a few paint touch ups here and there, so don’t come expecting a show car (see the picture of the roof, for an example). To all intents and purposes, this is a healthy, reliable car that could be put into daily use without worry. It’s a true classic car that hasn’t been over-restored and lost its identity. If you wanted a show car it would require a rub down and respray. The wings etc are all nice and solid.

Mechanically, the engine starts and runs very healthily indeed. It’s recently been fitted with a stainless steel exhaust which has the brilliant Minor ‘rasp’ on overrun. The brakes (along with the handbrake) work very well and the wheels lock up under heavy braking. The gearbox is nice and smooth with no crunches in between gears, and it doesn’t jump out of gear either. It rides very well, with no nasty bumps or rattles like you often get with unkempt examples.

As stated above, there is absolutely nothing to worry about with regard to structure – and this is usually the sticking point with these cars! The interior is in pretty good order, too – it’s recently had a carpet set and new soundproofing fitted.

This is a bargain price for a fantastic car which attracts a great deal of attention wherever it goes. Obviously it’s not a concourse car but it’s very nice, and won’t be requiring any significant work for a long long while. You’ll be able to see that for yourself when you come to view.
